ART CULTURE

Thank you to Cig Harvey for her generous permission to use her photograph for this week’s feature image.

This week I went on an art bender.

The Farnsworth in Rockland, Maine, has just opened back up for their The Farnsworth at 75: New Voice Maine In American Art on February 11th. Let me tell you: it’s a delight!

Chief Curator Jaime DeSimone put together an incredible exhibition not to be missed.

Some of my favorite artists in the exhibit were Lois Dodd, Ayumi Horie, Grandma Moses, Kathe Bradford, Cig Harvey, and Hannah Secord Wade.

I also visited Page Gallery in Camden and watched a piano delivered. Strangely, I never have seen a Piano delivered.

On loan from Bay Chamber, the piano is free for playing and performing.

I also revisited my trip to the CMCA’s Biennial in Rockland, Maine, and Jared Lank’s “Bay of Heron’s” where he recorded the nature of Mackworth Island and the ruins of the abandoned school for the deaf. Shot on a Sony FX3 and FX6, the movie is haunting and emotional.

In other Art News beyond Maine, I was fascinated by this article in the New York Times about this life of “Bruno Stefanini, a Swiss real estate magnate who died in 2018, spent his life collecting huge numbers of buildings, fine art and historic memorabilia”.

The article discusses his collection of over 100,000 pieces and his daughter’s (who now oversees the collection) determination to return works to their original Jewish owners lost during persecution.

All in all, it was a fascinating week.

CREATIVE CULTURE 🖌️

In collaboration with Gina Gomez and Associates

This morning I was reviewing my emails and came across this email mini-course by my good friend Gina Gomez.

As I went through the emails, I realized I’d had the HOLY GRAIL of HOW TO create meaningful relationships with key decision-makers.

Instructions I needed while re-building my creative work and connections.

Then I thought, DUH…I should share it with all of you creative people!

And because it’s the age of Aquarius, there’s no better time to:

  • Make new connections and get in front of a publisher, a gallery, an agent, or the like

  • Reach out to existing connections and strengthen them (you never know what will happen next!)

  • Get feedback to help move your work forward to make it more likely for you to get a YES from your proposals, presentations, and applications

Sign up here to get the emails. Everything you need to build the relationships you seek is inside, waiting for you.

RHIANNA CULTURE 🎤

I can’t end this newsletter without talking about Rhianna, The Superbowl, and Big Red Coats.

Well, as the media frenzy of Rhianna’s new baby on the way spilled this morning, I had my own opinions last night. Spoiler: I scooped the major outlets (I have the receipts in my emails!) but didn’t post.

Have no fear. It’s been covered all over the place, and I like Vanity Fair’s article about the whole event

Mostly though, I loved the dancing, the commentary it had on female power, and Rhianna’s big coat that felt very in conversation with Sam Smith’s red coat from his and Kim Petra’s Saturday Night Live performance on January 22nd.
